Better English pronunciation to make things better!

やはりオリンピックシーズンは駄目ですねぇ・・・ ブログ更新のことが頭にありつつ、ついつい男子と女子のフィギュアスケートに夢中になってしまい・・・
浅田真央ちゃん、残念ながら金はのがしましたが、でも堂々の銀メダル、本当におめでとうございます！ しかし、キム・ヨナさんの演技はすばらしかったなふぁ！（実は私、キム・ヨナさんのファンです^^;）でも、ライバル同士というのはいつも二人一組のようにみられがちで、ご本人たちは大変ですよね。いまの女子フィギュアをリードするお二人です。これからも楽しみですね。銅メダルの髙橋大輔選手、やりましたねぇ！ 歴史的な快挙です。日本の男子フィギュアのなかで、あれほどの表現力を発揮できるスケーターは本当に数少ないのではないでしょうか。

おっと、いつまで書き続けてしまうかわかりません。気分を戻して、今回の発音練習し入ります。

今回は前々回にやった /tr/ と /dr/ の復習と、さらに /str/ の音のつながりの発音練習を特集します。まずは、/tr/ と /dr/ の復習をしてみましょう。
/tr/ からです：

tree /tri/、try /traɪ/、trap /træp/

次は /dr/ です：

dream /drim/、dry /draɪ/、drop /drɒp/

さて、/tr/ の音の sequence がうまくできるようになったことを確認したら、次はさらに /s/ を追加して /str/ にトライしてみましょう。/str/ の sequence で一番注意すべき点は、真ん中の /t/ の音を省略しないようにすることです。まず、舌尖を歯茎（alveolar ridge）に近づけて /s/ の摩擦をしっかりと作ったら、こんどは舌尖を歯茎の後部にしっかり接触させて /t/ を作ります。次に舌尖をはずして /r/ に移行するのですが、この時に少し摩擦を生じるようにしながらゆっくりと舌尖を歯茎の後部から離していきます。以下の単語で実践してみます：

street /strit/、strike /straɪk/、strong /strɒŋ/、strange /streɪndʒ/

次は、/tr/ や /str/ をセンテンスを使って練習してみましょう：

● I was trying to draw a triangle.
→ /aɪ wəz ˈtraɪɪŋ tə ˈdrɔː ə ˈtraɪæŋgl/
● Tracy had a strange dream one day.
→ /ˈtreɪsi hæd ə ˈstreɪnʒd ˈdriːm wʌn deɪ/
● Drunken driving is strictly dealt with in our country.
→ /ˈdrʌkən ˈdraɪvɪŋ ɪz ˈstrɪktli ˈdelt wɪð ɪn aə ˈkʌntri/

こんどは文章で練習してみましょう。今回は The Times紙の記事を使ってやってみます。今回のポイントになっている /tr/ /dr/ /str/ で発音する箇所は、いつものように太字で示してあります。ぜひ一緒に練習してみてください。↓

It is one of the busiest street crossings in the world, but a small slice of anarchy was let loose on Oxford Circus yesterday.
As taiko drummers pounded out a heady rhythm and cartoon characters stalked the pavement, the Mayor of London struck a giant cymbal and urged pedestrians to scatter in all directions. For the first time, shoppers were urged to cross diagonally as well as straight ahead, following a giant white X emblazoned on the tarmac.
On the face of it, the scheme is very simple: about every 90 seconds, all four sets of traffic lights at the intersection of Oxford Street and Regent Street turn red simultaneously. Pedestrians then have 30 seconds to cross to whichever they want.
The intention is to double the number of people able to cross at any one time, easing congestion on one of the busiest stretches of pavement in the West.
